As was recently reported, Zhang Ziyi was to attend the Louis Vuitton 150th anniversary celebration in Hong Kong, China before immediately leaving for Japan to begin production of legendary Japanese director Seijun Suzuki's new musical.

Along with Ziyi, the Louis Vuitton party, held Friday night, April 16, 2004, was attended by numerous international celebrities including Michelle Yeoh, Rosamund Kwan, Daniel Wu, Edison Chen, Aaron Kwok, and R&B sensation Kelly Rowland, among many others. The star-studded party was an opportunity to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the founding of Louis Vuitton in 1854.

Zhang Ziyi is currently in Hong Kong, China and will be there for the next two days. After attending the Louis Vuitton 150th anniversary celebration there she'll be heading to Japan to begin production in the lead role of a new musical by legendary Japanese director Seijun Suzuki, best known for the 1967 cult hit Branded To Kill and for its more recent sequal 2001's Pistol Opera, a companion piece to the Audrey Hepburn/ Fred Astaire musical vehicle Funny Face. Suzuki's trademark style blends fractured narrative with lurid and heavily stylized action sequences.

According to the script of this yet unnamed musical, Ziyi will play a Tang Dynasty (618-907 AD) woman who happens to be in Japan during this period for yet unknown reasons. A small amount of Japanese dialogue will be expected from her character.

Shi Mian Mai Fu Grand Premiere In July
    April 08, 2004

Instead of having it's premiere screening at the 57th Annual Cannes Film Festival in May as was previously expected, director Zhang Yimou's second wuxia film Shi Mian Mai Fu ("No Way Out" - aka Lovers - formerly, House of Flying Daggers) will have it's grand premiere at Worker's Stadium in Beijing, China on July 10, 2004.

Also, Columbia Pictures has purchased the North American distribution rights to Shi Mian Mai Fu. The film will presumably be distributed through Columbia Pictures' Sony Pictures Classics, the distributor of other succesfully marketed films worldwide, including The Road Home and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon among others.

Shi Mian Mai Fu stars Zhang Ziyi as a blind dancer and Andy Lau and Takeshi Kaneshiro as Tang Dynasty (618-907 AD) law enforcement officers, not Ming Dynasty as was previously reported.
