Ziyi On Her Way To Tibet Today
August 31, 2002
|
According to a new report by Sina.com,
earlier today Zhang Ziyi was at Chengdu Airport in Sichuan Province -- famous for it's spicy food
-- en route to Tibet. She was found at a Cafe eating several hot and spicy Sichuan dishes with
her father, brother, Zinan, and other Tibetans while waiting for their flight. She asked for some
even more spicy dishes after sampling a few. She even signed a dozen signatures for her fans
who were very delighted and amazed that she was not at all like the impression given of an international
star in that she was quite personable with them.
Ziyi was on her way to Tibetan to fulfill her desire to visit the province and contribute to the
Tibetan Project, charity fund for Tibet development. She will attend the ceremony for a Tibetan
donation on Sept. 1, 2002.
The following images are of Ziyi in Tibetan dress appearing at the National Guest House for a Tibet
Development Fund function in Beijing on February 28, 2002. The fund is a very important cause for
her. At the event, Ziyi handed over a charity donation of 100,000 yuan (about US$12,000) to the
fund's chairman, hence becoming ambassador for the fund:

Good Cook Still Very Likely Project
August 30, 2002
|
"Nicky G" of AdamSandler.com has recently
informed Zhang Ziyi CSC that Zhang Ziyi visited the office of Adam Sandler's production company,
Happy Madison,
earlier this year.
Presumably Ziyi's visit took place while she was in the U.S. shooting her "Got Milk" add and
touching up on her English in April and May of this year. It was about this time that Adam
Sandler informed Taiwan's Mun Sang Poh that
"I'm getting married and the bride is Zhang Ziyi!," fueling speculation that Good
Cook, Likes Music may soon enter production.
A reliable, anonymous source has also informed Zhang Ziyi CSC that Ziyi is looking very
much forward to working with Adam Sandler and that only scheduling conflicts between the two
have thus far postponed production. No formal announcement from either Zhang Ziyi, Adam Sandler
or Happy Madison has been made regarding the start of Good, Cook's impending production.
Of her visit to Happy Madison, "Nicky G" says that "Zhang Ziyi was VERY pretty! :)"
In Good Cook, Likes Music, Adam Sandler plays a bored "white trash"
guy who lives in
a trailer park with his mother. In search of companionship, he sends for a mail-order bride who
arrives in the form of Zhang Ziyi. His new bride shows a remarkable ability to play music and
ends up changing everyone's life.

Ziyi On Set Of Kill Bill
August 26, 2002
|
Harry Knowles from AICN is
currently in Beijing visiting the set of Quentin Tarantino's new movie
Kill Bill. He keeps a diary of the trip on his site, Ain't it Cool News.
This excerpt from his entry for the second day might be of interest:
When suddenly...
Zhang Ziyi!!! WHAT THE HELL IS SHE DOING HERE!!! Wow, Zhang is just dropping by to check out the
shoot. -- oh my god, I'm being beckoned to go meet her, be right back...
I've touched Zhang Ziyi and didn't explode into a hail of blood and guts. She is wearing a black
t-shirt with a calligraphy style white stallion upon it, a mid-calf Levi skirt, and an orange
cap... Her English is very good, and soooo cute... That perfect broken English, where you can
completely understand what she is saying, but the struggle is just excruciatingly adorable. A
while ago, I was listening to her watch David Carradine dispatch 3 of Michael's droogs... As the
shot ends, she lets out the cutest delightful giggle of morbid delight, then she steps back and
demonstrates the move that David Carradine did to her friends. Very cool. By the way, her friends
are cute too! She's just here to visit, doesn't have a part in the film... but wow... I guess
this is the sort of thing that happens when you shoot in China... Folks like Zhang Ziyi, just...
um drop by to check it out and say hi! WOW! Ok, Watching David Carradine kick ass with a Samurai
sword and throwing knife... Cool... Meeting Sonny Chiba - One of the greatest moments of my life...
Then to have the absolute film fan cherry on top of it all.. to hang out and talk with Zhang a
bit... We briefly talked about MUSA which she says was very hard work. And she's very much
looking forward to seeing HERO finished. She's most excited about working on 2046 for Wong
Kar-Wai... Oh man, can you imagine how beautiful that movie will be? Keep watching the ASIA-AICN
columns for details on that!

Harry Knowles for the news update.

Shooting Of Purple Butterfly Ends
August 21, 2002
|
Tianjin Daily reports that shooting of
Purple Butterfly
ended two days ago. A press conference schedule for this month has been
scraped due to the production staff's exhaustion, which was caused by their recently accelerated
and marathon filming schedule. Wu Yongli, the film's production manager, said that the film is
carefully crafted down to every detail and that Zhang Ziyi had many love scenes but she never went
over-board with her acting. Post-production is expected to be completed by February of next year.

Hero Action Choreographer Talks About Cast
August 17, 2002
|
Hero Action Choreographer Ching Siu-tung
(Tony) recently gave an interview to Nanfang Daily about the
lead cast members of the highly anticipated film. He was quoted as saying
that judging from the actors' action performances, Jet Li was the best
and Zhang Ziyi's was the hardest. However, they all did their own fight
scenes without doubles and that there was even a little bit of rivalry
between them.
On Zhang Ziyi's performance, "Score 4 of 5 stars. She was trained in
dancing, so we used dancing cinematography for her. She is extremely
skillful, no double needed and her performance is even better than that
in Crouching Tiger,
Hidden Dragon. The actions designed in Hero have high difficulties.
Her action performance is the most difficult. Thanks for her quick learning and cleverness."
On Jet Li, "Jet Li was the national wushu champion. He could master his
fights with very little direction. He has shown us his body, strength of
his moves, and his grace. So we emphasized more on showing the character
of his role and the strength of his moves."
On Maggie Cheung, "[Maggie's] character in the movie is very cold.
She has never learned wushu either, and we have focused on showing herbeauty, using gaudily colored costumes and landscapes. Really beautiful."

According to xxcb.com, Zhang Ziyi was in Changsha,
Hunan Province, China the day before yesterday to make an appearance on the popular TV show

August 03, 2002
|
The following spy photos are of Ziyi and her co-star, presumably Nakamura Toru,
on the Purple Butterfly set.The first is of the two breaking between shots. The second is a still shot taken by a photographer from a ladder.
The purpose of the still shot is so that they'll have a hard copy to see how the camera angle looks, as oppose to the film. When they go back to the
story board, they then can replace the hand sketch drawing of the scene with this actual snap shot:
