2046 Wins At European Film Awards

Gong Li,
Carina Lau,

Faye Wong and
Dong Jie —
won the Best Non-European Film Award at the 17th European Film Awards
held in Barcelona, Spain yesterday, December 11, 2004.
Presented by the European Film Academy, made up
of 1,600 film industry professionals from around Europe, this year's European Film Awards featured 44 films competing in 17 categories.

Demonstrating her growing popularity and influence within Hollywood, Zhang Ziyi was recently invited by the
Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to attend the
77th Annual Academy Awards to be held Sunday, February 27, 2005
in Hollywood, California.
Ziyi's very busy schedule has postponed the premiere of Jasmine Women
(aka Mo Li Hua Kai, formerly Jasmine Flower) — famous Chinese photographer and director
Hou Yong's film about a family of three generations
of women, starring Zhang Ziyi, Joan Chen,
Jiang Wen,
Lu Yi and
Liu Ye. The film was previously set to be released
in China on Valentine’s Day, 2005, but rescheduled for March, 3.

2046 To Open Indian Film Festival

director Wong Kar-wai's long-awaited sequel of sorts to his
2000 art-house hit In the Mood for Love,
starring Tony Leung, Zhang Ziyi,

Chang Chen,
Gong Li,
Carina Lau,
Takuya Kimura,
Faye Wong and
Dong Jie —
will open the 9th International Film Festival of Kerala
tomorrow, December 10, 2004, in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India. Nearly 150 films from around the world will be screened
at this year's festival, which runs through December 17, 2004.
Moving forward in one-year increments throughout the 1960's, 2046 continues the tale of journalist Mr. Chow (Tony Leung).
After moving into a hotel vacated by a nightclub performer he once knew, he gradually crafts a science-fiction novel about
the future named after his room number, 2046.

2046 Wins Two Golden Horse Awards

Last night, Saturday, December 5, 2004, the 41st Golden Horse Film Awards,
essentially Taiwan's equivalent
of the Academy Awards, were held in Taichung City,
Taiwan. Among the many winners was
2046 —

Though Wong Kar-wai was not nominated for Best Director, 2046 received 8 nominations, more than any other film,
including nominations for Best Film,
Best Lead Actor (Tony Leung), Best Cinematography (Cristopher Doyle,
Lai Yiu-fai and Kwan Pun-leung),
Best Art Direction (William Chang),
Best Make-Up and Costume Design (William Chang),
Best Original Film Score (Shigeru Umebayashi and
(Peer Raben),
Best Sound Effects (Tu Du-che).
Of the 8 Golden Horse nominations, 2046 won two: Best Art Direction (William Chang) and Best Original Film
Score (Shigeru Umebayashi and Peer Raben).

Flying Daggers North American Release Today

House of Flying Daggers
(Shi Mian Mai Fu - "No Way Out", aka Lovers) — director Zhang Yimou's second wuxia
film since 2002's internationally successful, Oscar nominated Hero,
starring Zhang Ziyi, Andy Lau and
Takeshi Kaneshiro (Jin Chengwu) and choreographed by Tony Ching Siu-tung —
will begin a limited North American release today, Friday, December 3, 2004, in 15 New York and Los Angeles area theaters.
Distributor Sony Pictures Classics will expand the film's
release on December 17, 2004, throughout North America, including Canada, to a total of 200 theaters by Christmas and 1000 by
mid-January 2005.

Flying Daggers Wins National Board Of Review Award

Yesterday, Wednesday, December 1, 2004, House of Flying Daggers
(Shi Mian Mai Fu - "No Way Out", aka Lovers) — director Zhang Yimou's second wuxia
film since 2002's internationally successful, Oscar nominated Hero,
starring Zhang Ziyi, Andy Lau and
Takeshi Kaneshiro (Jin Chengwu) and choreographed by Tony Ching Siu-tung —
was announced as the recipient of the Outstanding Production Design Award by the National Board of Review of Motion Pictures.
The award will be presented at a ceremony to be held by the National Board of Review on January 11, 2005, at
Tavern on the Green, Central Park at West 67th Street, New York City, New York.
The National Board of Review, dedicated to the support of film, domestic and foreign, as both art and entertainment, is a
New York-based nonprofit organization, composed of film professionals, educators and historians.
