House of Flying Daggers Premier In Hong Kong
    July 13, 2004

Last night, July 12, 2004, House of Flying Daggers, starring Zhang Ziyi, Andy Lau and Takeshi Kaneshiro (Jin Chengwu) and directed by Zhang Yimou, premiered with a public unveiling (no screening) in Hong Kong, China. House of Flying Daggers is director Zhang Yimou's second wuxia film since 2002's internationally successful, Oscar nominated Hero. All profits from the House of Flying Daggers premier ticket sales in Hong Kong were donate in honor of Anita Mui Yim-fong to her True Heart Charity Foundation. Setup by Anita in 1993, the foundation regularly gives to various charitable causes.

Anita Mui, world-renown Canto-pop diva and critically acclaimed and award-winning actress, died last December from complications brought on by cervical cancer. House of Flying Daggers would've been her last role. Unfortunately, not a single scene of her was shot before her death. She was to play the older sister of Xiao Mei, Zhang Ziyi's character. Part of the premier was dedicated to displaying what would've been her costume.

Because of a pressing health issue within her family, Zhang Ziyi was unable to attend the Hong Kong premier of House of Flying Daggers. She and her mother spent the evening tending to an aunt who had open heart surgery. A telegram in the name of those in attendance at the premier was sent to express their regards.

House of Flying Daggers will be released to over 300 theaters throughout China and Hong Kong on Friday, July 16, 2004.
