Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon Multiplayer Online Game
June 27, 2002

Korean software publisher Phantagram Interactive has announced that it will develop and publish a multiplayer online game based on Ang Lee's popular kung-fu fantasy film Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. The game will feature fast-paced kung-fu fighting and an involved storyline. Phantagram plans to launch an official Web site for the game with more details in the coming months. The Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon game is scheduled for release near the end of 2004.

In other related news, software publisher UBI Soft unveiled it's Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon game for the Playstation2 and the XBOX last month at E3 (Electronic Entertainment Expo). Game reviewer: "What's good about the game is the combat system. At first glance, the game just looked like a standard hack-and-slash game, but in the hands of somebody who knows how to play, it really remind you of the film both in the motions on screen and in the fluidity of the controls."

Along with the Playstation 2 and the XBOX, UBI Soft is also developing Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon games for Nintendo's Game Boy and GameCube. Planned release dates for all four are 11/01/2002, fourth quarter of 2004, 11/01/2002 and 12/02/2002, respectively.

Ziyi Ill on Purple Butterfly Set
June 24, 2002

Purple Butterfly's production manager, Wu Yonglin, told New Daily that Zhang Ziyi had tonsillitis but she kept working anyway. Since early this month, Ziyi has been working nonstop, including the making of many rain scenes.

Last week she made a very shot strip to Taiwan, and started feeling ill after returning to the movie set in Shanghai. Her illness explains her separation from other members of the film's cast and crew and for her constant entourage on and off the set.

Co-star Liu Ye: "Ziyi is currently making some very sad scenes, plus she got soaked for a very long time yesterday. Her body just couldn't take it anymore. But, Nakamura Toru will go back to Japan tomorrow, Ziyi has to go back to the set tonight."

From the Shanghai Set of Purple Butterfly
June 21, 2002

Shooting of Purple Butterfly continues inside the Shanghai Film Studios' production facility built outside of the city. The facility contains replicas of streets, buildings and houses from 1930's Shanghai.

New Daily reported Tuesday evening that they've shot the scene in which Liu Ye's character, Situ, is being kidnapped and beaten up by the assassin gang, led by Zhang Ziyi, after he took a wrong wallet. Yesterday, they made the scene with Liu Ye's character, after being beaten up by Zhang Ziyi's men while walking into a cafe to deliver a message. Later Zhang Ziyi came and they took a few shots with her (still with pig-tails) quietly following Luo Ye in the dark.

Zhang Ziyi is reported to be well "protected" on the set. She was the only one assigned a car and always stayed inside her dressing room between takes. Many people were following her all the time, including her American assistant and her manager.

Ziyi's First Interview Since Starting Purple Butterfly
June 19, 2002

Zhang Ziyi recently did a sit-down interview from the Purple Butterfly set with a reporter from Chinese Business View. This was her first formal interview since starting the filming of her role in director Lou Ye's project.

"After a few days of shooting, I feel that this production team has a great desire to create. Maybe because we are all very young, including the director [Lou Ye]. We've worked very well together." As for the story, "the story is very complicated, so it's very hard to summarize in a few words." When asked about why she took this project, Ziyi said, "I think first of all, it's the script which drew my attention; second, it's the director's young age. I always wanted to work with younger directors because they can inspire me and create a lot of opportunities for me. Hollywood is not necessarily the only road for me."

Ziyi Recently Interviewed on Phoenix TV
June 6, 2002

Details of when and where this interview of Ziyi was made are a bit sketchy at present, but recently Zhang Ziyi was seen on the Chinese cable channel Phoenix TV presumably to discuss hair and hair care products and techniques.

When asked about "hair protection," here's what she had to say: "I've had long hair since I was 5. When I was little, my mom used to wash my hair for me. Washing my hair is the easy and relaxing part, but the painful part is combing it." When asked if she ever thought about getting short hair, Ziyi answered no and said she wanted to keep her hair just the way it is. The program went on to comment on how nice and dark Ziyi's hair is and an enquiry was made to know more about her hair care "secrets."
